Neutrophils help prevent infections by digesting, disabling, blocking invading pathogens. They constantly  search for signs of infection, and quickly respond to trap and kill microorganisms. The body produces neutrophils in the bone marrow and they account for 50-70% of all white blood cells in our bloodstream. These fighting cells also communicate with other cells to help them repair damaged cells and mount an immune response. Neutrophils play an important role in regulating the immune system and inflammation in our body. When there is any infection or any kind of inflammation, some special chemicals alert mature neutrophils to travel to the site of infection. They can also release neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) under pathological conditions.  NETs carry cytoplasmic and granular antimicrobial proteins which play a significant role in host defence. NETs defuse pathogens with antimicrobial proteins such as neutrophil elastase, cathepsin G and histones that have a high affin
